Why I Became a Financial Advisor

| November 19, 2016

I like to think that financial planning, helping others, and running a business are all family traits. My father and uncle were both financial planners who originally founded Hansch Brothers & Associated more than 50 years ago. Growing up in the business, my brother, David, and I saw the benefits of financial planning firsthand. Our dad and uncle helped so many people with their finances that it inspired me to want to continue the tradition.

After graduating college, David and I joined forces to rebuild the business, transforming it from Hansch Brothers & Associates to Hansch Financial Group. Despite a different name, it was still two Hansch brothers serving their community.

Returning to the Family Business

While there are plenty of national firms I could have worked with, I always knew I wanted to go back to the family business. Not only does it offer me the opportunity to work alongside my brother, but it also allows me to continue a family legacy and build upon what my dad and uncle first started.

As an independent family firm, we can offer the best of both worlds: the intimacy and personalized attention of a community practice and the resources and services of a national firm.

My Motivation

Having been in this business since 1986, I’ve seen many economic changes, experienced twists and turns in the market, and met with hundreds of incredible people. My motivation to be a financial advisor has remained the same since day one: to try to help people make smarter financial decisions that align with their values.

Financial planning isn’t just about the numbers. A plan must also incorporate an individual’s personal goals, timeline, and values. What is it that they want to accomplish with their wealth? What would building their wealth enable them to achieve? I provide my clients a values-based financial roadmap to guide them from where they are today to where they want to be for the reasons most important to them.

Following a holistic process and keeping one’s values at the forefront of planning, I aim to offer my clients more confidence knowing they have addressed all of their financial planning concerns, both for the short and long-term.

While there are difficulties that come with being an advisor and running a business, I can’t imagine having a more fulfilling career. It’s incredibly satisfying helping people achieve a high level of confidence in their plan’s ability to guide them toward their goals, regardless of what happens in the markets. And if they stumble, they have a financial guide to rely on for assistance.

Helping clients work toward their financial independence enables me to work toward my financial goals and financial independence. I hope I can inspire my clients as much as they inspire me.
